Console

The game would be used on the 360 and the PS3 console most likely for profit since the game is new and isn't an icon for any of the consoles. A downgraded version may be released on the Nintendo Wii but the graphics would be set down. But this idea might be scrapped since the Playstation and Xbox have a simular cotrol system while the Nintendo Wii controllers are differently designed. The game will not be released on PC because it would be pirated and would most likely loose a lot of sales.

The controls will be mainly using combos by pressing a combination of buttons to do special attacks with your wolf. The 360 and PS3 were used because their controls are simular if not the same.
Here are the controls for the consoles, you must hold certain buttons to perform moves.
The equity issue was looked into and the most that could be added to the game for the disadvantaged was subtitles for the deaf. Coordinating exactly where to go for the blind with a special speaker telling exactly what to do. Also the game will be distributed to disadvantaged gamers with a discount of 50% with legal proof at any store.

Resubmit

Here is the updated version with changes made to certain areas to create a better scenery for the map. The changes made was a dried up well filled with sand near the house, a camp fire with only ash left in it in front of the house. The house was also slightly changed covered with sand to make it look like it had been abandoned for a long time.

The statue was turned into a shrine with a mini water fountain added and a candle post in front of the monument. Also wolf footprints were imprinted into the light sandy area around the statue, to show there are regular visits by living creatures.

The extra atmospheric scenery was also added so the map is more complete. As I mentioned in the reflection that I was not able the props. This was successfully done and fixed.

Models added

Models create to give the enviroment more of an atmosphere. The water fountain and candles were added around the statue to create a shrine. The sandy well, the extinguished campfire and the updated sandy house was also added and edited.

Reference pictures

Some pictures to create basic models for to add to my scenery.

Epilogue

Only some changes need to be added into my Unity map since it seemed as if my models were just placed into the scenery with no story behind it. The environment around models had no history behind them and no scenery is around the models to create more of an atmosphere. Scenery around the models of the house and the statue will be added. Also the ground textures around the models will be changed to show that something lively was around in the past or something.

Possible things added to the house area:
- dead camp fire
- a human made trail road
- cut wood
- empty well
- possibly a man made tool.

Possible things to add around the statue:
- mini garden sculpture, with a mini pond
- candles
- wolf footprints in the sand

Map Reflection Document

Finally my Unity level Crescent Moon is complete.
My first concept idea for my Unity map was going to be a post apocolyptic wasteland filled with only scavengers and raiders roming the wastes. There were going to be some civilized towns. But this idea was scraped early luckily before anything too seriously was created. I started with my basic outline of my map which contained dirt and sand. The map was later changed and I was thinking of more of a fantasy based game. I added different textures on my map such as grass, rocks, white sand and another sand texture. I decided to do an animal game but you are also an animal, also including clans in the game. What other better animal than wolf packs. So I chose to do a wolf game but you are a lone wolf who belongs to no one’s clan.
My story was only a rough idea of just setting up a beginning for a story. I did not think of an ending for the game. For the terrain I just used the terrain toolkit to create small hills and giant cliffs then put textures on the ground. The map consists of the middle area which is just a dessert with no life forms around. Then around the dessert are three regions which contain a clan of wolves in each of them.
When I created my skybox it kept screwing up every time I reopened the Unity file. But after we used the new Unity 3 the skybox stopped deleting itself. After I had my map layout set up I added props with the terrain toolkit. But eventually decided to remove the props as there were too many and I wanted to create my own scenery with my own props.
So I began creating models in 3ds max. I started modelling a wolf first but it did not turn out very well, I decided to google how to model animals and found a dog model tutorial which I followed then morphed it into a wolf instead of a dog. The UWV unwrap was easily done for the dog, though I did get a little help with the neck. I then animated the wolf to give it an idle pose in my Unity level. I then created other organic and manmade props in my level. They were also easily textured using UVW unwrap.
The last touch ups I did with my map were lighting effects. Since my skybox is an overcast picture I decided not to add a sun light to cover the whole map but instead I added a light effect around the light forces giving them a colourful illumination when you approached them. I also quickly made the map smaller since it takes a while to travel from one side of the map to the other.
Changes I would have made to the game would most likely created more of an environment in the clan regions and more of a better atmosphere in the dessert. I would have possibly added more wolves with different textures and animations. The environments could have been improved on especially with the particle effects. I also would have changed the regions of the wolf clans to be more unique for each of the areas. Possibly added a inside/cave landscape. One of the regions was originally planned to be created as a cave but was not able to do so as I did not know how I would approach this idea. Caves got a little strange and changed the map making other parts disfigured. The last thing I would have added would most likely be more life forms for props or for the game. But I did not get that far with ideas.

The last part of the reflection has been updated on the Resubmit post.

Map changes

My map on Unity was too big so I decided to change the resolution size of the terrain from 2000 X 2000 to 500 X 500. This made travelling through the map easier since it would take like a while to get from one area to another.

Dog Statue

This dog statue was quickly added in since in one the clan lands there were no models. So I decided to place something to make the land look less bare.

Natural wood

Here are some Natural logs that have been chopped down and left there over many years. A basic UVW unwrap was placed on the logs like the house.

wooden house

Here is my fully textured wooden house prop which has some basic techniques used such as UVW Unwrap on parts of the wooden house. This house serves no purpose only an abandoned house in the barren wastes.

Wolf animations

I decided to do two more animations for the other wolf textures. One just sits down while the other lays down for a couple of seconds. These will all be included in my Unity map. The animations are only roughly done.

Missing assets I did not mention

The skybox I added is cloudy and there is no sign of the sun. So as an alternate for my light source they life forces will illuminate the area around them as mentioned in a previous post. A small waterpond/oasis was added to the map.

Wolf Textures

Added two more wolves for the different clans, they are differently textured. The one on the left I just changed its eye colour and made the fur a lighter colour. The one on the right I wanted to make dark and mysterious with unknown alien green glows on it.

Wolf Animation

Here is an animation for my idle wolf. I decided to go basic for this idle since it is only for presentation when I record my Unity map and putting too much detail in would be pointless.

Tribute

This post is a tribute to Bryce for helping me assign bones to my wolf. This video is the wolf Bryce want to animate. Note this will not be added into my Unity map.

Thanks Bryce!

WOLF Texture

My first wolf is finally textured. I originally used turbo smooth on the dog but realised that the poly count was way too high so I used mesh smooth instead to lower the poly count from around 3000 to 400. The pictures below show one with turbo smooth on and another with mesh smooth.

Life Force changes

The life force animations have been updated to look more lively. They are bigger and slightly change colour. The new life forces look like they are giving the land power like a natural electric current and runs when it is lit up and glowing. Also the life forces now illuminate the land around them.

Map Update

My Unity map now contains particle effects in certain areas, so when you move to another area the particle effect changes depending on where you are. I also added a moving easter egg in the map. Well it wasn't added I just forgot to remove it ages ago and found it randomly while I was searching through my map. It is a ball that never stops bouncing and will cross the entire map at after a certain time if left on. Behold the ball!
Also if you are in the rocky landscape and look up there is a flying man in the air he is the other secret easter egg haha

Rocks Rocks Rocks!

These are my modeled and textured rocks for my level in a part of my scene. They also have mesh colliders on them so when you collide with them they will block you. The same will be done for the rest of my models as well.

Here is my basic HUD the weapons need to be changed but I have the basic HUD up and runnung. Also I hate my start display screen done. While I was creating a start up screen I thought up a great title for my game level - Crescent Moon

HUD picture and game level start up screen

Gameplay Interactions

You will be able to interact with the non playable characters in many ways such as talk to them, attack them, do quests for them, join their clan or get followers. You will be free to start your own clan up and take members from other clans if they are willing. But in the end the main objective will be to collect all three life forces from the clans, since it is the primary objective.

Map Update

This map is a guide to where everything is in the game.

Red - healing spots
Yellow - AI
Green - Traps and puzzles
Blue - life forces (which you must collect)
Teal - Extras

3d models so far

I have created some rock models and a wolf model for my Unity level, they will just be props in my level. The wolf will have an animation.

Game Proposal

This game focuses on console markets such as Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and possibly the Nintendo Wii. The game will later be released on PC if it it sells a lot in the gaming market. There will also be a multi-player and you will be able to create a clan and you and your clan may fight other clans as wolves. But you will not be able to custom create your character but you can level and upgrade your attributes for your character. There will also be mini games and other custom games in multiplayer such as king of them hill and Capture the flag.
There will also be down-loadable content with extra maps for a small fee.

Gameplay Mechanics

The game will be meele first person as you are a wolf. There will also be be puzzles in the game to figure out not just all hack and slash. You don't also have to just run in and attack the clan and steal their life force. You can talk them into giving you the life force by doing missions for them and giving them a reason to give it to you. It will be for the greater cause later in the game. You will also have choices on what you want to do to create a non linear atmosphere for the game.

Reference Pictures

Some Reference Pictures I found a while back of wolves to get some idea on how to model my wolves.

Game Update

My game has changed from a post apocalyptic genre to a fiction fantasy game.
It is a wolf which character you play as who needs to travel to all the different regions of the land, each area represents an element of the earth. There is a war occuring between the three tribes. They are trying to steal each others "light source" which gives their territory power.

You start by waking up and reading a note ordering you to steal the "life force" from each of the clans. You remember that you accepted this mission in the past some time but do not remember why. That is also the only thing you remember. So you go and collect these life forces.

Each clan is controlled by the alpha male.

I have also updated my map from a birds eye view
